Chicago the Musical

‘Chicago’ is a 1975 American musical with music by Kander and Ebb. Set in the Jazz Age, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same title by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, about actual criminals and crimes on which she reported. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the ‘celebrity criminal’. There are some sizzling numbers from ‘All That Jazz’ to ‘Cell Block Tango’ to the poignant song of ‘Mister Cellophane’ . The show is co-directed by Mark Chutter (Head of Performing Arts ) , Connar Porter and Gina Parsons. The music is directed by Aaron Parsons and Ed Hintze, choreography by Julie Ashmore, set design by Alison Moore and Emese Nagy, sound and lighting by Stephen Hooper and costumes by Mark Chutter, Connor Porter and Gina Parsons. Head of Performing Arts Mark Chutter said, ‘come and experience the world of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly – a male dominated world where women struggle to find female empowerment ‘.
