Downing College, Cambridge, visit Wey Valley
On Friday, Rubie McDermott from Downing College, Cambridge delivered a presentation to a range of students at Wey Valley. There were two sessions aimed at those pupils wishing to access Higher Education and specifically through widening participation . Rubie McDermott is an Alumni of Sidney Sussex College and completed her undergraduate and postgraduate studies there. Rubie is now the School and College Liaison Officer.
During the session the students asked many intelligent questions such as ' what would it cost to study at Cambridge?', 'which subjects can I study and at which colleges? One student said of the session 'this has really raised my understanding of how to access higher education '. Another Year 10 student exclaimed 'this has made me consider my future career and where to study at Sixth Form and then at University'.
Head of Performing Arts Mark Damon Chuter said ' my thanks to Rubie McDermott for such an inspiring session . The next stage for this project is the Academy visiting Downing College later in the year. It is exciting to be developing these important partnership links with the University of Cambridge with the message that 'anything is possible to achieve here at Wey Valley'.
